Pre-enrollment and enrollment

If you are an Italian student with a foreign qualification, or an EU or non-EU student regularly residing in Italy and you have obtained your degree in a country other than Italy, to enroll at the University of Genoa, follow these steps.

STEP 1 - Pre-enrollment

You can apply for pre-enrolment on Unige Online Services in the following cases:

  • For undergraduate courses (Bachelor’s degree) and master’s degree (Master’s degree) with free access: meet the deadlines listed in the table above. You can pre-register even if you are completing your studies (see the deadline for obtaining the title);
  • For limited access courses: check the deadlines provided by the respective calls for admission. Consult the page of calls with programmed number

ONLY for courses: Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry (MAY 2024 SESSION ONLY)

AFTER you have applied on UNIVERSITALY to register for the admission test and BEFORE you start filling out the application for PRE-ENROLMENT:

  1. Send an email to sass@unige.it in order to activate the filling of the application for pre-enrolment (otherwise you will be blocked). As stated in the call, you must send the email BY 15th April 2024.
Title email > Resident - pre-enrolment course AP session May; body email > name: NAME, surname: SURNAME, date of birth (exactly as reported on the document, in case of multiple names and surnames, report all the complete data), course with programmed number for which you have applied on Universitaly, type of student (Italian or Community, non-EU regularly in Italy); email attachments > (mandatory) passport (or Italian identity card if in possession) and residence permit (mandatory, if non-EU student regularly in Italy); if already in possession also attaches the legalized diploma and the declaration of value or other document accepted by Unige (see section on "Enrolment documents").
  2. Wait for an email from the Welcome Office with your UniGePass credentials (YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GENERATE your own credentials) that will allow you to start filling out the pre-enrolment application and save (the application will be "green" complete).
  3. Read the instructions on filling in the pre-enrolment application reported below but IGNORE instructions other than those presented in 1) and 2) above. The other indications are addressed to the presentation of the application for the other courses or other sessions of courses with programmed number (SERVICE NOT ACTIVE at the moment, computer systems being updated). Later, you can then go to STEP 2 - Enrolment, always refer to this page for information, meanwhile collect all the necessary documents reported in the dedicated section "Documents for enrolment".

All courses (except Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry - May session):

Register to obtain your UniGePass credentials (username and password) to access the Online Services. Be careful to fill in the fields with the data exactly as shown on your passport (or on your Italian ID, if in possession). In case of surname and/or compound name, enter all surnames and names on your passport (do not use dashes and dots). Be careful not to reverse the surname and first name fields. If one of the two fields is empty on your passport, fill in using an X. Filling in with an error can slow down the services offered. Please note that the fields filled during the registration phase cannot be modified by the user during the pre-enrolment application process.

Go to Online Services, enter your credentials to access and start pre-enrolment.

  • Select the course/s of interest (consult course.unige.it first for more information on each course). In case of a bachelor’s degree, mark in the options of "preliminary test exemption" > no exemption. In the case of a master’s degree, mark in the options of "date of test" > select the first available date; "credit requirements" > to be verified; "preliminary test exemption" > no exemption.
  • If you are a NON-EU student regularly resident in Italy, in the "Profile" section, once you have selected your nationality, remember to check the box that will appear with the following words: ‘I declare to be legally resident in Italy according to the current Immigration Law (as per D. Lgs. 286/98 and subsequent amendments)’.

  • In the section "Education": the fields that will be automatically filled in in the case of selection of foreign diploma (or Italian diploma obtained abroad) or foreign degree must not be changed, indicate that the qualification is obtain in a foreign institution.

  • In the section "Documents" only upload any documents expressly required by the selected course of study, such as the certificate of knowledge of the language. The documents required to complete the enrolment that are listed in the section "Documents for enrolment" will then be provided in another way.

ATTENTION: the application for pre-enrolment cannot be confirmed (it will remain "yellow", application to be completed) until it is reviewed by the Welcome Office. See below the actions to follow to continue the process.

Once the application for pre-enrolment has been completed, in order to be able to save it definitively (the application will become "green"), prepare the documents listed in the section "Enrolment documents". At this level you may not yet have all the documents. If you have already collected everything you need, please provide all the documents and you can then speed up the registration process.

  • You will have to present at least the following documents: passport; all documents on the title (also not legalized if not yet in possession) with any translations and on the stay in Italy (if required). If you do not have the declaration of value (DOV) or the CIMEA comparability certificate or the Diploma Supplement, you can provide them by December 2024.

Send the email to sass@unige.it. Given the large number of candidates, it will take time to take care of your application. Please do not contact the office, the applications will be viewed in chronological order.

To complete the process, then confirm pre-enrollment and enroll, you must have submitted the documents on the title (for all students) and in the case of NON-EU students regularly in Italy also the documents on the stay in Italy. Wait for more updates on this page.

We always invite you to consult the page of your course for further details, starting from corsi.unige.it

  • Important: you can apply to the Embassy or Consulate of your country of origin for the translation and legalization of your qualification and for the issuance of the Declaration of Value (DOV). The documentation can also be issued by the Embassy or Consulate in Italy of the foreign country where the title was obtained. Knowledge of the language (Italian/English): certificates and tests

all students will have to take the Italian language test and get at least level A2 (minimum level required only to complete the enrolment). Unige requires level B2. You cannot take the language test only if you have provided a certificate of knowledge of the Italian language recognized by Unige. More information on the Recognized Certifications. You can also take a course independently, we point out the Centro Studi Italiani (with an office in Genoa) issuing a certificate recognized by Unige.
You can find all the information on the required requirements and the Italian language tests (which you should read carefully) at the following page: Test of Italian language

you do not have to demonstrate the knowledge of the Italian language, you can provide a certificate of English proficiency (at least level B2) recognized by Unige or submit a document stating that English has been the medium of instruction (MOI) of the degree you have obtained. In the case of access to a Master’s Degree in English, during the pre-selection on UniGeApply you will be able to provide the document of knowledge of the English language. If you get it later, you can provide it during the pre-enrolment phase or later you can contact the Secretarial Offices of your School of reference to provide the certificate (you can start from corsi.unige.it, search for your course and see the contacts, or see https://unige.it/servizi/segreterie).

If you choose a course with admission test and limited access

  • If you choose to enroll in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry or Architectural Sciences, you will also need to register for the admission test on Universitaly within the deadlines that will be indicated on the website.
  • If you choose to enroll in a scheduled access course (not only for Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry or Architectural Sciences) check the calls on the web pages of the courses in the "Prospective Students" section with details on admission tests and deadlines.
