Initial or intermediate phases


In the earlier stages of the process, UniGeApply and Universitaly (if required, only for visa-applying students), not all documents listed below are required.

Please note: to apply for Unigeapply or Universitaly (if required) you do not need to already have the legalized title (or with apostille) and the declaration of value (or other equivalent documents that can be submitted as a replacement, see below). Only if the student already has such documents, it is recommended to present them.

Final Phase: documents on the title

Enrolment in a Bachelor’s degree (laurea) or 5-6 years single-cycle degree (laurea magistrale a ciclo unico)

  • Passport (or national ID in case of Italian or EU students); 
  • Title (Diploma) legalized by the Italian Diplomatic or Consular Representation competent for the territory or through "Apostille" or alternatively accompanied by the Statement of Verification issued by CIMEA (Information Center on Mobility and Academic Equivalences- www.cimea.it);
  • Declaration of Value (DOV), alternatively: Statement of Comparability issued by CIMEA. 
  • Attention: students whose qualifications can be found in the ARDI database (Automatic Recognition Database Italia) prepared by CIMEA shall be exempted from the presentation of the Declaration of Value or the Statement of Comparability;

  • The certificate attesting to the passing of any test of academic suitability, if required for access to the University of the country of origin;
  • Document of knowledge of the Italian or English language (depending on the course chosen, if taught in Italian or English). Attention: for the enrolment to the courses offered in Italian language it is mandatory to present a certificate recognized by Unige or pass the test of Italian language (in presence), otherwise you will not be able to enroll.   • Translations: if the original documents are not in Italian, English, French, Spanish or Portuguese, remember to also submit an official translation. The translation of the title in Italian may be prepared by the Embassy or Consulate, or performed by the official translator and confirmed by the Embassy or validated by the Italian Court.  
    If you have earned your degree at the end of a school period of less than 12 years, you must also submit one of the following documents:
  • Academic certification attesting the passing of all the exams for the first or first two years of university studies;
  • An official Italian or foreign post-secondary degree obtained in a non-university higher education institution of a subject similar to the chosen course lasting one or two years;
  • Certifications issued by Italian Universities for the completion of preparatory courses (foundation courses). The University of Genoa does not organize foundation courses.
  • The supplementary documentation must relate to studies of at least one or two years, depending on whether the school system of origin is 11 or 10 years.

Enrollment in a Master’s degree (laurea magistrale)

  • Passport (or national ID in case of Italian or EU students); 
  • Degree (Bachelor’s Degree) legalized by the Italian Diplomatic or Consular Representation competent for the territory or through "Apostille" or alternatively accompanied by the Statement of Verification issued by CIMEA (Information Center on Mobility and Academic Equivalences - cimea.it);
  • Transcript of records: list of examinations taken to obtain the title, duly confirmed by the Diplomatic or Consular Representation or legalized by "Apostille". This certificate is not required if the Diploma Supplement is submitted;
  • Declaration of Value (DOV), alternatively: Statement of Comparability issued by CIMEA or Diploma Supplement. 
  • Attention: students whose qualifications can be found in the ARDI database (Automatic Recognition Database Italia) prepared by CIMEA shall be exempted from the presentation of the Declaration of Value or the Statement of Comparability;

  • Document of knowledge of Italian or English language (depending on the chosen course, if taught in Italian or English). Please note: to enroll in the Italian language courses it is mandatory to submit a certification recognized by Unige or pass the Italian language test (in presence), otherwise you will not be able to enroll. (*) Countries for which documents are accepted without legalization or apostille: Belgium, Denmark, France, Ireland, Germany.

(**) Check if the title you hold is in the ARDI database: look for the level of your title and the country that issued it.

 

Final Phase: documents on stay in Italy

Visa applicant students

  • Visa (document obtained before arrival in Italy). The stamp with the date of entry in Italy must be evident in the uploaded document;
  • Receipt of application for the issue of the residence permit – Permesso di Soggiorno (document obtained after arrival in Italy).

Non-EU students already legally resident in Italy (resident students)

  • Residence permit (valid document, if renewal is imminent, also submit the application for renewal of your residence permit). For resident students, it is not enough to submit the receipt of application for the first residence permit.

EU and Italian students

  • No applicable request.
