If you are an Italian student with a foreign qualification, or an EU or non-EU student regularly residing in Italy and you have obtained your degree in a country other than Italy, to enroll at the University of Genoa, follow these steps.

Registration: get credentials (if required)

  • If you do NOT already have UniGePass credentials (student number, example S1234567, and password) to access UniGe Online Services, PROCEED with REGISTRATION.
  • Be sure to fill in all fields with the full data, exactly as shown on your passport.

Register to get UniGePass credentials - Go to user registration >

USE YOUR UNIGEPASS CREDENTIALS (do not re-register) in your possession in cases:

  • If in previous years you have already accessed UniGe Online Services.
  • More generally, if you have previously registered and obtained UniGePass credentials (even if you have never used them to access the Online Services).

Attention:

  • Do not attempt to make multiple registrations for the same user.
  • The insertion of incorrect personal data may cause a slowdown of the service offered and the impossibility to proceed with the saving of applications on Online Services.
  • In case you need a password recovery, change the email address or other actions related to UniGePass credentials consult the dedicated pages https://cedia.unige.it/unigepass-studenti and https://cedia.unige.it/UniGePASS

STEP 1-A: Submission of the application

  • Use UniGePass credentials to authenticate and start pre-enrollment application

Presenta la domanda di pre-immatricolazione a.a. 2025/26

Read the notes carefully to correctly fill in the application:

  • Click "submit a new application" to get started.
  • Courses section: the chosen course must coincide with the application submitted on Universitaly and in the case of pre-selection (if required), with the course for which you have received a positive result. Information for all students: in case of a degree program (Bachelor’s degree or single cycle 5-6 years degree), mark in the options "verification exemption" > no exemption. In the case of a master’s degree course, mark in the options "date verification" > select the first available date; "curriculum requirements" > to be verified; "exemption verification" > no exemption.
  • Profile Section: in the case of non-EU students, as you will be a resident student, you must tick the option:  "I declare that I am legally resident in Italy, according to the current legislation on immigration (D.Lgs. 286/98 and ss.mm.ii.)". If this option is checked, remember that you will have to prove that you are a resident.
  • Section Education: the fields that will be automatically filled in the case of selection of foreign diploma (or Italian diploma obtained abroad) or foreign degree must not be modified, indicate that the qualification is obtained in a foreign institution.
  • Documents section: upload only any documents expressly requested by the selected course of study. The documents necessary to finalize the enrollment will be provided with another method upon arrival in Italy.
  • If all the sections in the top row are no longer marked in red when you view your application, the information is complete and you can save your pre-enrollment.

STEP 1-B: Final submission of pre-enrollment

Check the status of your application and whether an action is required, depending on the wording that will appear after saving:

  • complete: means that the application has been submitted correctly, no action is required.
  • pending approval of the Welcome Office: the application must be reviewed by the office and it is necessary to RECEIVE YOUR DOCUMENTATION on the foreign title and (if applicable) on the stay in Italy. After sending the documents, wait for an automatic email that notifies you of the unblocking. The procedure is not immediate, wait the necessary time. Once you have received the email, go back to your pre-enrollment application on Unige Online Services and press the "save" button. The application will pass to the "complete" state, see above.
  • incomplete: your action is required. For example, the application will be incomplete if it has been unlocked (see previous point) but you have not yet saved it again for final confirmation.
  • with errors: the application is not submitted correctly, there is one or more errors in the compilation. An error message is reported. The errors may be due to inconsistencies found by the system on your data (for example, you are a student applying for a visa and you have incorrectly marked as a student already legally resident in Italy). Once the error has been corrected, the application must be saved again.

Please note: you will always receive an automatic email that notifies you that the update (save) action you performed on your pre-enrollment application has been successfully completed.

IN CASE YOUR APPLICATION IS IN THE "pending approval from the Welcome Office" STATUS, check how to provide documents to the office and required steps:

  • Check information on the course web pages in the Prospective Students section with details of entrance tests and deadlines. Start from https://corsi.unige.it/ and find your course of interest or click here: calls of admission
  • For Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry: a national reform is in progress which includes the elimination of the entry test, wait for the updates on the course page.

If you choose to apply for a single teaching unit

You have to pre-enroll at the Italian Embassy or Consulate where you will also have to submit your grade transcript, or your diploma, or any other document issued by your Faculty for its translation, legalization and issue of the declaration of value. The University of Genoa also accepts the certificate of comparability issued by CIMEA - Centro Informazioni Mobilità Equivalenze Accademiche or the Diploma Supplement that may be presented instead of the DOV.
