Information on the State Examinations for Psychologists and Doctors of Psychological Techniques – Second Session 2026

PLEASE NOTE

  • to sit the qualifying examination to practise as a psychologist (Ministerial Decree No. 554/2022), you must have completed the 12-month postgraduate professional placement totalling 1,000 hours
  • To sit the qualifying examination for the profession of Doctor of Psychological Techniques, candidates must have completed the postgraduate professional placement lasting 6 months, totalling 500 hours.

Applications for enrolment in the second session of the 2026 State Examination must be submitted no later than 12:00 on 21 October 2026. Please read the instructions set out in Notice D.D.G. No. 2379/2026 carefully.

To qualify for the profession of Psychologist (Ministerial Decree No. 554/2022), candidates must pass an oral examination covering the activities carried out during their professional placement, as well as aspects of legislation and professional ethics.

The qualifying examinations for the profession of Doctor of Psychological Techniques for the first and second sessions of 2026 will consist of the examinations set out in Presidential Decree No. 328/2001.

The State Examination for Psychologist (Ministerial Decree No. 554/2022), second session 2026, will begin on 16 November 2026; the State Examination Doctor of Psychological Techniques (2nd session 2026) will begin on 20 November 2026.

For both professions, the schedule for the additional examination dates will be determined in November 2026 by the Examination Board and will be published on the website: https://disfor.unige.it/didattica/post-laurea/esami-stato

Each candidate is assigned a registration number; this number may be used for certain stages of the process, such as notifications and/or the publication of examination results.

Information on the practical assessment for psychologists – November 2026 session

PLEASE NOTE

  • to sit the practical assessment Psychologist (Ministerial Decree No. 567/2022) it is necessary to have obtained the certificate of successful completion of the practical assessment placement corresponding to 30 CFU, lasting 750 hours as referred to in Article 2 of Ministerial Decree No. 567 of 20 June 2022.
  • Those who meet at least one of the conditions set out in Article 2, paragraph 1, of Director-General’s Decree No. 861/2026 may sit the practical assessment for qualification as a psychologist.

Applications for enrolment in the practical assessment test Psychologist (Ministerial Decree No. 567/2022) for the November 2026 session no later than 12:00 on 27 October 2026. Please read the instructions set out in the Notice D.D.G. No. 861/2026 carefully.

The practical assessment, aimed at qualifying for the profession of Psychologist (Ministerial Decree No. 567/2022), consists of passing a single examination focusing on the work carried out during the practical assessment placement and on the links between theories/models and professional practice, as well as on aspects of legislation and professional ethics. 

For the November 2026 session, the practical assessment will begin on 9 November 2026 and will consist of an oral examination to be held in person.
