The Universal Civilian Service is a path of growth and training dedicated to young people, between the ages of 18 and 28, Italian, European and foreign residents at the time of application, lasting one year and with a weekly commitment of 25 hours over 5 days (Monday-Friday).

The advantages of this choice include:

  • a tax-free reimbursement of €507.30 per month

  • a certificate of acquired skills that can be used in the labour market

  • training credits expendable in your university course of study

  • a possible recognition of the Civil Service course as a curricular traineeship

The year of Civil Service is also redeemable for social security purposes and guarantees those who complete the course 15% reserved places in all public competitions, thus representing the ideal path for those who wish to work in the Public Administration in the future.

The University of Genoa, an accredited body at the Department of Youth Policies and Universal Civil Service, has been offering this course for three years in partnership with various local stakeholders such as the Municipality of Genoa, the social cooperatives "Agorà" and "La Comunità" and the APS "Arci Servizio Civile". The project thus confirms its social commitment to the community of Genoa while responding to the objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Volunteers are entitled to a monthly reimbursement of 507.30 euro tax-free, which is paid directly by the Department for Youth Policies and Civil Service and not by the organisation or association promoting the project.

You can only apply for one project, so the first step is to choose the one in which you intend to participate.
Once you have identified the project you wish to apply for you must copy the project code and search for the same project on the Domanda On Line (DOL) platform, indicating it as the chosen one.
You will then need to fill in the other fields of your application, such as your previous experience and your reasons for applying.

Once the call for applications is over, UniGe will convene the selections, which will take place in person. The selection criteria are indicated in the summary sheets of each project. The interviews are formally convened with the mere publication on this site of the selection dates and the candidates involved, although the university undertakes to signal the convocation also to the emails provided at the time of application.

On completion of the interviews, the university will publish provisional rankings. Please note: for reasons of data protection, the candidates' first and last names will not be indicated, but will be anonymised using the application number at the top of the application. You are therefore advised to save this number.

  • To take advantage of the 15% of places reserved in public competitions for former Civil Service volunteers.
  • To take an active part in the social and civic life of the country, dedicating a year of one's life to a commitment of solidarity
  • To achieve that "active citizenship" that makes protagonists of those who have voluntarily decided to spend a year in favour of the community
  • It is an opportunity for human and social growth and compulsorily provides general and specific training courses
  • It is a qualifying experience to be included in one's knowledge base, expendable in the course of one's working life, and which, at times, can itself become a job opportunity
  • It can take the form of a concrete opportunity for socialisation at work i.e. an opportunity to come into contact with a working context that has its own rules, which entails reciprocal rights and duties, sharing of responsibilities and objectives, development of links and new relationships
  • It offers the opportunity to put into practice the theoretical knowledge learnt during the school-university training pathway, concretely verifying one's professional aptitudes
  • The period of community service is assessed in public competitions in the same way and with the same value as the service provided in public bodies
