The Risky Business project, devised by Sabine Go (Amsterdam), Giovanni Ceccarelli (Parma) and Adrian Leonard (London), collaborates with economic historians from the Department of Economics at the University of Genoa such as Luisa Piccinno and Antonio Iodice. It aims to locate and group maritime insurance prices from different documentary sources and through the collection of existing datasets. The project has created a database, available online, that collects prices of maritime insurance between the 16th and 19th centuries from Genoa, Livorno, Venice, Dubrovnik, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam.

The workshop proposed by the Department of Economics is an opportunity for discussion among team members, IT experts, and well-known national and international scholars on how to develop the project to implement the amount of data available, their visualization, and how to employ new tools such as optical character recognition or geolocation of ports and routes.
