Available fellowships

  • Senior Applied Fellowship Programme

Fellowships for candidates who are nationals of one of the CERN Member States with a doctorate in applied sciences, computer science and engineering or at least 4 years of experience after the Master's degree (or equivalent) and in any case with no more than 10 years of experience after the Master's degree.

Duration: 6 - 36 months

Documentation: for the application it is necessary to attach: CV, most recent qualification, 3 letters of recommendation providing an overview of the most relevant academic and professional achievements, which must be provided at the time of application.

Amount: Salary between 7,113 (€ 6,468) and 8,078 CHF (€ 7,345) per month.


  • Junior Fellowship Programme

Fellowships for candidates who are nationals of one of the CERN Member States with a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree (or are in the process of obtaining) in applied sciences, computer science and engineering and no more than 4 years' experience after the Master's degree.

Duration: 6 - 36 months.

Documentation: for the application it is necessary to attach: CV, most recent qualification, 3 letters of recommendation providing an overview of the most relevant academic and professional achievements, which must be provided at the time of application.

Amount: Salary between 5,239 (€ 4,764) and 6,506 (€ 5,916) CHF per month.


  • Senior Research Fellowship Programme (Theoretical & Experimental Physics)

Fellowships dedicated to research activities in the field of Experimental and Theoretical Physics for candidates who are nationals of one of the CERN Member States, with a PhD in Particle Physics (or are in the process of obtaining) and have no more than 10 years' experience after obtaining their Master's Degree.

Duration: 6 - 36 months

Documentation: For the application it is necessary to enclose: CV, most recent qualification, a declaration of interest regarding the research group (separate letter of motivation of maximum 1 page), 3 letters of recommendation providing an overview of the most important ones relevant academic and professional results achieved, which must be provided at the time of application. Moreover: the 5 most important publications to which they contributed, 5 international conferences or workshops to which they took part, 5 speeches to which they personally contributed, 3 experiments to which they took part.

Amount: Salary between 7,113 (€ 6,468) and 8,078 (€ 7,345) CHF per month.

N.B.: applications will be evaluated in May 2020, with the exception of those submitted in the field of theoretical physics, which will be evaluated in November 2020.


  • Post Career Break Fellowship Programme

Fellowships dedicated to graduates in Science and Engineering with both 'Senior' and 'Junior' profiles who have had a career break for personal reasons for a period of at least 2 years.

Duration: 6 -36 months

Documentation: for the application it is necessary to enclose: cv, a letter describing the experience and career interruption and how the interests and research capabilities relate to the different activities of Cern, most recent qualification, 2 letters of recommendation providing an overview of the most relevant academic and professional achievements, which must be provided at the time of application.

Amount: monthly salary between 5,239 (€ 4,764) and 8,078 (€ 7,345) CHF per month.
