A new paradigm for industrial flow modelling
Turbines and compressors – machines that transfer energy between rotating blades and a fluid – are fundamental components of aeroplanes. Accurately modelling and predicting the complex flow dynamics in turbomachinery is a challenge, yet it is a prerequisite for developing safe and efficient designs. The various characteristics of the flow can be influenced by phenomena occurring at different scales, from the macroscopic to the molecular level. Incorporating high-precision data at all levels can hinder the development of reduced-order models applicable to a wide range of flows. With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the TSCALE project is developing a new set of low-order models, each applicable to a different range of scales present in the compressor flow.
