The operation and maintenance of buildings often require considerable amounts of electricity, water, heating and cooling, consequently resulting in a significant volume of emissions; it is therefore urgent to find sustainable solutions for energy storage in the building sector. Supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the SMART-NRG project aims to develop and optimise biomass-derived phase-change materials as a sustainable solution for thermal energy storage in buildings. The project tackles the challenges associated with the low thermal conductivity and heat loss of these materials, thereby enabling a reduction in energy consumption and emissions.
