High-Precision Flavoured Particle Production at the Large Hadron Collider

HORIZON – MSCA-PF-2023

Improving the accuracy of particle collision studies
Understanding the fundamental forces of nature requires precise theoretical tools to interpret experimental data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Heavy quarks, such as charm and beauty quarks, play a crucial role in probing the structure of the proton, in advancing studies of the Higgs mechanism and, potentially, in the discovery of new physics. However, current theoretical predictions must achieve unprecedented accuracy to match the precision of experimental measurements. With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the HIPFLAPP project is developing advanced calculations in quantum chromodynamics. The aim is to accurately predict the production of aromatic particles across all kinematic ranges, combining fixed-order and integer-order perturbative methods. This is a fundamental tool for theoretical and experimental physicists in the era of precision research at the LHC.
