In recent years, there has been an increase in the opportunities for students with disabilities and DSA to make use of compensatory tools, both hardware and software, which enable students to acquire greater autonomy in carrying out their studies.

The University of Genoa makes some software available free of charge, subject to UniGePASS authentication.

We would like to point students to some free software available online:

  • "Microsoft Learn Educator Center" Microsoft's Immersive Reading Tool is a free tool, integrated into Word, OneNote, Outlook, Office Lens, Microsoft Teams, Reading Assessment, Forms, Minecraft Education and the Microsoft Edge browser, that implements proven techniques to improve reading and writing for people regardless of age or ability.
  • "Helperbird" is an all-in-one accessibility tool designed to make web pages, PDFs and documents easier to browse, read and write. The tool can be customised to suit your needs (Available in English).
  • "Soyvisual" designed to promote augmentative communication and language development. The service for documentation and guidance on educational software and other digital learning resources (Available in Spanish).
  • "OpenDyslexic" is a typeface designed to counteract some common symptoms of dyslexia (Available in English).
  • "Magic School" is a digital educational platform that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to radically transform the learning experience (Available in English).
