Tomaso Poggio

The MaLGa Colloquia seminar series hosts Tomaso Poggio, one of the leading figures in the field of artificial intelligence and computational neuroscience, for a talk entitled 'Science of Intelligence, a personal perspective'.

In his talk, Poggio retraces the milestones of artificial intelligence research from a personal perspective: from pioneering research on the mind of the fly in the 1970s, to the first algorithms for generative graphics, gene prediction and autonomous driving in the 1990s, to the most recent developments in the theory of deep learning.

Tomaso Poggio is Eugene McDermott Professor in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT and director of the NSF Center for Brains, Minds and Machines. He was a founding member of the McGovern Institute and CSAIL (Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory). A former Corporate Fellow of Thinking Machines Corporation and director of Mobileye and PHZ Capital Partners, he was involved in the creation of several high-tech companies, including Arris Pharmaceutical, nFX, Imagen, Digital Persona, DeepMind and Orcam. Among the world's most cited computational scientists, he has trained numerous students who are now leaders in artificial intelligence research.
