By a directive of the Council of Ministers on October 14, 2021, the National Space Day was established to celebrate the launch of Italy's first satellite, the San Marco 1, on December 15, 1964, thanks to which Italy was among the first countries in the world to pass the Earth's atmosphere.

On this occasion, government departments, in coordination with research organizations, promote attention to and information about the national space sector. In particular, UniGe and INFN - National Institute of Nuclear Physics, Genoa section, are organizing an afternoon of popular lectures entitled "From the Lantern to Space: the Genoese contribution in the study of our universe" on Dec. 16.

• 3:30 p.m.: link with researchers from the Antola Park Astronomical Observatory by Silvano Tosi
• 4 p.m.: "Hunting for Meteorites with the Prism Project" with Walter Riva, Dario Barghini and Davide Gaddi
• 5:00 p.m.: "Euclid and the DarkSide of the Universe" with Ilaria Risso and Matteo Rossi
• 5:45 p.m.: meeting with journalist Giovanni Caprara "Space exploration: from the first Italian satellites to the future that lies ahead"
