A directive issued by the Council of Ministers on Oct. 14, 2021, established National Space Day with the aim of celebrating the launch of Italy's first satellite, the San Marco 1, on Dec. 15, 1964, thanks to which Italy was among the first countries in the world to go beyond the Earth's atmosphere.


On this occasion, government departments, in coordination with research organizations, promote attention to and information about the national space sector. In particular, UniGe and INFN - National Institute of Nuclear Physics, Genoa section, are organizing"From the Lantern to Space: the Genoese contribution in the study of our universe," an afternoon of popular lectures.
