On 2 June 2022, as part of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) awards ceremony hosted by the Engineering Mechanics Institute Conference 2022 (EMI 2022, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA), Prof. Giovanni Solari was posthumously awarded the prestigious ASCE Newmark Medal.

The 'Professor of Wind', who passed away on 19 November 2020, is the first Italian to receive this award and the only one in the world to have collected all the major research awards in the field of structural and mechanical engineering:
