Until March 25, Villa Durazzo in Santa Margherita Ligure will host the photographic exhibition on the studies conducted in the deep Ligurian Sea by the Marine Biology research group of the University of Genoa coordinated by Prof. Marzia Bo.

The photographic exhibition ideally retraces a journey into the depths through the eyes of a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) touching the main animal forests found from the crepuscular zone (between 50 and 200 m) to the deep basal slope (600-700 m) passing through the tops of ancient submarine volcanoes (140-1800 m) in the heart of the Ligurian Sea. Recent discoveries made in the canyons of Levante Ligure as part of the Curiosity project are also presented, concerning extensive bioconstructions of deep white corals and the rich community of organisms associated with them.

The exhibition also gives a glimpse of the imprint that man leaves in these environments, apparently so remote, through images and preserved specimens. There are numerous anthropogenic impacts that affect the deep animal forests (fishing, garbage, ...) undermining their integrity and their role as an oasis of diversity in the deep sea.
