INFN is the public research institution dedicated to the study of the fundamental constituents of matter and the laws that govern them; it carries out theoretical, experimental and technological research in the fields of subnuclear, nuclear and astroparticle physics with a strong propensity for technology transfer.

INFN's research activities are all carried out at an international level and in close collaboration with the Italian university world.

Today, INFN employs about 2200 employees and almost 4000 associated researchers distributed in 20 sections (including the Genoa Section, an integral part of the Physics Department of UniGe) and 4 national laboratories.
