The University annually allocates resources for the co-funding of PhD scholarships with the aim of:

  1. preserving doctoral training in the University of Genoa's sectors of excellence, as evidenced by the activation of the PhD programmes;
  2. improving the internationalisation and visibility of the University's PhD courses, also at a national level, and increasing the endowment provided by the Ministry.

In order to achieve the first objective, the distribution method (used as from cycle XXXVIII) provides both a historical endowment for each PhD programme that safeguards doctoral training for all the sectors of excellence.

In order to achieve the second objective, the distribution method uses a premium allocation of grants that enhances the criteria used by the Ministry for the allocation of resources specifically intended for the Research Doctorate through the Ordinary Financing Fund (FFO) of State Universities.
