PRESENTAZIONE

The class aims at giving the basic knowledge of the main networks technologies with a particular focus on Internet and wireless ones and their usage within monitoring and emergency management. The class contents are organized into four parts, addressing network basics, Internet technologies (TCP/IP), wireless technologies and finally their applications for monitoring and emergency management.

OBIETTIVI FORMATIVI

The course introduces the key concepts related to stochastic modeling in the framework of disaster risk prevention and assessment. Basic knowledge will be provided about probability theory, random variables, stochastic processes, and Bayesian decision theory. Examples of applications to problems of data modeling and analysis associated with risk applications will be discussed.

  • Networking basics
    • Basic definitions, circuit and packet switching, functional architectures, and layering, protocols, physical and data layers summary.
  •  Internet technologies
    • Internet architecture,  application layer, TCP/IP, IPv4/6.
  • Wireless Networks 
    •  Radio mobile networks (GSM, UMTS, 4G-LTE, 5G); Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11); Bluetooth (IEEE 802.15.1), sensor networks
  • Networks for monitoring and emergency management
  •  Issues, applications and practical examples.
