Approaches to modelling coastal evolution in the context of global change

23/11/2018 ore 15:00 - Scuola Politecnica, Salone di Rappresentanza, Via Montallegro 1

With large-scale human interventions and climate change unfolding as they are now, coastal changes at decadal timescales are not limited to incremental modifications of systems that are fixed in their general geometry, but often show radical changes in layout that may be catastrophic for populations living in previously stable areas. Apart from continuing to refine more and more complex models to simulate such changes and allowing them to operate on longer time-scales, we need new, simpler approaches that can still capture complex coastal behaviour. In the seminar some of the latest developments in coastal morphology modelling will be discussed.
