AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides the theoretical and methodological skills necessary for the understanding of the main devices present in modern electrical power systems, with particular reference to the integration of renewable energy sources (RES)

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The main training objectives of the module are the following:

 

Facilitate students' learning of the main electrical devices;

Help them to carry out the transition from solving an exercise on an electrical circuit to describing a real object, proposing a mathematical model and exploiting the theory of electrical circuits to predict the behavior of the device starting from the circuit model that has been proposed

Reinforce their ability to present an argument by defining its logical flow, starting with the hypotheses to the final results.

Offer them experiences of problem analysis or realistic test cases that move from the theoretical knowledge imparted in class to use them in the solution of the case study

Lectures and practice exercises with Matlab

Overview on electromagnetic fields.

The main electrical machines: Transformers, induction machines, synchronous machines

Principles of static conversion in electrical energy

Prodcution of energy from photovoltaic plants

Prodcution of energy from wind plants

Smart Grids

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam will be exclusively oral, after the report of the exercises carried out during the semester.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The assessment of the achievement of the training objectives will be proposed as follows:
1) The ability to present a topic will be assessed through a general question, in which students, in the face of a limited time, will have to choose what to expose and what to skip, in what order to present the concepts and at what level of detail
2) the ability to analyze a real problem and translate it into mathematical models will be tested by proposing a real case study not addressed during the lessons in which the student will have to interact with the examining teacher to arrive at the solution of the problem

Pre-requisites :

There are no formal prerequisites, but a good basic knowledge of electric circuits is strongly recommended.
