OVERVIEW

The course, which consists of 32 hours of lectures, has the main objective of consolidating students’ English skills, starting from pre-intermediate level and working towards the ultimate objective over five years of reaching the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.  Special emphasis will be placed on the most appropriate structures and skills for teaching English in primary schools and kindergarten.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The laboratory is aimed at providing students with as broad and complete a base as possible, preparing them to teach English in primary schools and kindergarten. Classroom work and exercises are carried out to strengthen the main language skills and special attention will be paid to speaking. The goal for the first two years is the B1 level of the CEFR, constituting the first step toward achieving the B2 level by the end of the fifth year.

TEACHING METHODS

Work in the classroom will be conducted interactively and, to encourage this and facilitate participation, students will be divided into two groups.

The idea of the lab is for students to take an active part in the lesson.  Minimum compulsory attendance:  80% of the 32 hours of the course.

Students with DSA, disability or other special educational needs are recommended to contact the professor at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and exam methods which, according to the course’s objectives, take into account the individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory tools.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

This English course is aimed at pre-intermediate level (A2 of the CEFR) with particular reference to the most appropriate structures and skills for teaching in primary schools and kindergarten.  It is the first of five labs, aimed at reaching upper-intermediate level (B2), as required by the Ministry of Education.
