SHIP PROPULSION
OVERVIEW
This lecture is provided to both curricula, Deck Officer and Marine Engineering. For the Marine Engineering curriculum the lecture is 9 credits (90 teaching hours), while for the Deck Officer the lecture is 6 credits (60 teaching hours). This lecture covers the engineering of the ship propulsion systems, in terms of plant layout and performance. For the Marine Engineering curriculum the lecture provide Competence 1.1 Manage the Operation of Propulsion Plant Machinery (ref. IMO Model Course Chief Engineer and Second Officer).
AIMS AND CONTENT
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The course will deal with the management and the operation of the propulsion plant. Plan and schedule operations: propulsive characteristics. Operation, performance assessment.
AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
The aim of the lecture is to provide Design principles of ship propulsion plants, propulsion performance in terms of engineering aspects and navigation aspects. Furthermore, for the Marine Engineering curriculum, the aim is to provide in-depth knowledge of the subjects included in IMO MODEL COURSE Chief Engineer and Second Officer, in particular the following competencies. Competence 1.1 : Manage the Operation of Propulsion Plant Machinery. Competence 1.2 Plan and schedule operations. LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of:
DESIGN FEATURES AND OPERATIVE MECHANISM OF MARINE DIESEL ENGINE AND ASSOCIATED AUXILIARIES
DESIGN FEATURES AND OPERATIVE MECHANISM OF MARINE STEAM TURBINE AND ASSOCIATED AUXILIARIES
DESIGN FEATURES AND OPERATIVE MECHANISM OF MARINE GAS TURBINE AND ASSOCIATED AUXILIARIES
DESIGN FEATURES AND OPERATIVE MECHANISM OF MARINE STEAM BOILER AND ASSOCIATED AUXILIARIES, PROPULSIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF DIESEL ENGINES, STEAM AND GAS
