OVERVIEW

The course is focussed on the analysis of ship structures in terms of stresses generated by local and global actions

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Aim of the course is to provide criteria for strength verification of the ship's structural elements. The student will be provided with means for selecting the scantlings of the elements, both with direct approximate computations and using Rule requirements. Concepts and procedures are provided to quantify the main actions loading the ship structure, to define the global and local structural strengthand for limit state verifications adopted in design practice.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The first part of the courseprovides criteria and methods for the scantlings of ship structures under the action of local loads, with particular reference to the requirements of Classification Soicieties.

The secon part provides elements for a quantification of effects related to the gòobal linear response of the ship structure to static loads (still water bending moment, quasi static loads (wave induced BM) and dynamic loads (bending vibration).

Methodsa nd criteria are provided for a quantification of ultimate bending capacity of the hull girder.

PREREQUISITES

Fundamental knowledge, necessary to understand the course contents are:

  • Geometric characteristics of plane aand volumetric figures: inertia and static moments definitiuons and computational capabilities
  • Caratteristiche di rilevanza strutturale dei materiali da costruzione navale:  modulo di Young, coefficiente di Poisson e modulo di elasticità tangenziale, diagrammi signa-epsilon, tensione di snervamento, t. ammissibile e t. di rottura
  • Concetti base relativi allo stato di tensione-deformazione di una trave soggetta a forze esterne (in particolare di una trave semplicemente inflessa)
  • Risoluzione di travature iperstatiche elementari con metodo forze
  • Capacità di interpretazione della rappresentazione di strutture navali tipiche (fondo, fianco, ponte, paratia, etc) come da insegnamento di CN I
  • Elementi di geometria dei galleggianti: Tavole delle Carene Diritte, di Bonjean e conoscenze operative sul loro utilizzo.
  • Elementi di statica della nave (equilibrio di galleggianti: teorema di Eulero, metodo metacentrico e relativi campi di validità)
