LABORATORY OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE
OVERVIEW
The course, which consists of 32 hours of lectures, has the main objective of consolidating students’ English skills, starting from pre-intermediate level and working towards the ultimate objective over five years of reaching the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Special emphasis will be placed on the most appropriate structures and skills for teaching English in primary schools and kindergarten.
AIMS AND CONTENT
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The laboratory is aimed at providing students with as broad and complete a base as possible, preparing them to teach English in primary schools and kindergarten. Classroom work and exercises are carried out to strengthen the main language skills and special attention will be paid to speaking. The goal for the first two years is the B1 level of the CEFR, constituting the first step toward achieving the B2 level by the end of the fifth year.
Teaching methods
Work in the classroom will be conducted interactively and, to encourage this and facilitate participation, students will be divided into two groups.
The idea of the lab is for students to take an active part in the lesson. Minimum compulsory attendance: 80% of the 32 hours of the course.
SYLLABUS/CONTENT
This English course is aimed at pre-intermediate level (A2 of the CEFR) with particular reference to the most appropriate structures and skills for teaching in primary schools and kindergarten. It is the first of five labs, aimed at reaching upper-intermediate level (B2), as required by the Ministry of Education.

Students need to purchase the books (available online – e.g. Amazon.it or at the faculty bookshop) before the course and bring it to the first lesson.

EXAMS
Exam description
Since this laboratory is a stepping stone on the way to B2, there is no exam. However, at the request of students, an end-of-course test can be arranged so that each individual can monitor their progress.

FURTHER INFORMATION
Most of the course is taught in English. Your starting level should be at least A1 of the CEFR. Otherwise, you will need to work on any areas of weakness. In particular, you should concentrate on your speaking and writing.
