SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Mechanics of solids and structures

Stresses and strains in solids . Principal stresses .

Special problems of structural mechanics: Beam theory

Materials: Steels and Cast irons; Classification

Static strength

Static strength of materials. Ideal or equivalent stress. Strength criteria for ductile materials. Safety condition: Limit stress, Safety factor, Admissible stress.

Written (2 hours - 2 exercises) and oral examination (2 questions)

Assessment methods

The written test regards the solution of two exercises.

The oral examination consists of two questions on theory.

A positive evaluation of the written test is necessary condition to access the oral examination.
