HISTORY OF ITALIAN LANGUAGE
OVERVIEW
The course broadens the institutional knowledge acquired during the three-year degree course with a monograph approach.
AIMS AND CONTENT
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Analysing knowledge of the history of the Italian language with particular attention to the ancient language, non-standard variations of Italian, literary Italian and issues of style and metrics.
AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course, students should be able to a) recognise the movement dynamics of the Italian language during history, as it maintained, changed and discarded forms (phonetics and morphology), words (lexicon) and constructions (syntax), b) in premodern texts recognise the elements that are obsolete today and their meanings, c) reflect on the plausibility and describability of the notion of ancient Italian.

Students who have not taken a three-year course exam in History of the Italian Language or another course from the L-FIL-LET/12 sector must agree on an additional programme with teaching staff.
