OVERVIEW
The teaching proposes a reflection on archives intended as a material trace of administrative activity, as a direct source for knowledge of the past and as a tool for the protection of rights and for the organization of society.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
The teaching of general and digital Archiving aims to provide students with the basic coordinates on the methods of training, management, conservation of documentary complexes produced by public or private subjects, with particular reference to the forms of organization and sedimentation of documents from the Middle Ages to our days. The last 20 hours of lessons, dedicated only to students who have to take the 9 CFU exam, will focus in particular on the impact that digital information and communication technologies have had and will have on contemporary archives.

Archives as cultural assets: forms and methods of protection, enhancement and promotion.
Use of archives and documentation: access and consultation.
From equipment tools to research tools: description, representation.
Research tools: guides.
Research tools: inventories.
From description to sharing: archival standards.
The application of standards: archival information systems.
Elements of the history of Archives and archivistics.

Basic elements and definitions: documents, information, data, metadata.
Production of the document and digital archive.
The problem of obsolescence.
The problem of the reliability of digital testimony.
Digital preservation.
The hybrid archive.

EXAMS
Exam description
The exam takes place orally, through the dedicated MS Teams classroom, up to new provisions on health safety.
Assessment methods
The oral exam will focus on the topics addressed in class and covered by the bibliography. The assessment of the level of preparation of the candidates will take into account the effective mastery of the basic notions of the discipline as well as the ability to critically re-elaborate the themes and problems faced in class.
For students unable to attend classes, the exam will focus exclusively on the bibliography.
