OVERVIEW

The course offers an introduction to ethics by combining a historical and analytical perspective. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The main expected outcome is to provide knowledge of the key concepts of ethics and to the most relevant ethical theories.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims at: providing a robust knowledge of the history of ethics and its most fundamental concepts and theories; enabling students to read and interpret ethical works from different ages and approaches; mastering the technical langiage of the discipline, and its main methods of inquiry.

Teaching methods

Lectures and seminar discussions will be alternated to the comment of texts.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Students will be required to study the slides provided, together with one of the following textbook:

M. De Caro, F. Magni, M.S. Vaccarezza, Le sfide dell'etica, Mondadori, Milano 2021.

Moreover, they will study a selection of classic texts provided, and one the two following texts:

Aristotele, Etica nicomachea, Bompiani, Milano 2001/Laterza, Roma-Bari 1998.

I. Kant, Fondazione della metafisica dei costumi, Bompiani, Milano 2002/Laterza, Roma-Bari 2005.
