GENERAL SPECIALISED PEDIATRICS
OVERVIEW
The General and Specialized Pediatrics Course provides knowledge of the problems related to the state of health of diseases from neonatal age to adolescence.The student will have to acquire the cognitive elements to identify and know how to interpret clinical problems through the cognitive elements for identify the anamnesis:physical examination, laboratory tests and/or instrumental examinations,including pediatric radiology, and the multiple pathologies from infant to adolescent.
AIMS AND CONTENT
AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
Know in detail the essential steps of neonatological activity from the delivery room, to the assistance of the healthy infant. The ability to perform a complete clinical examination is provided to know how to differentiate the clinical-therapeutic choices based on the gestational age, the age of childhood and adolescence. The main notions are provided on the pathophysiology of growth in developmental age, on pubertal development and on the differential diagnostics of systemic diseases that compromise growth. Knowledge will be provided on the stages of neonatal screening with the relative pathways for taking charge
Teaching methods
The teaching of Pediatrics is divided into 414 hours divided into
- N. 46 hours of theoretical lectures held in the classroom where the topics are studied: Neonatal-gic (from assistance in the delivery room, to feeding the newborn), with the related pathologies: respiratory syndrome, perinatal infections, jaundices, etc.
Growth and development: developmental anomalies that require further study: delayed puberty from infant to adolescent, adreno-genital syndrome. The thyroid, obesity, etc.
Pediatric diseases: The child with recurrent infections and respiratory diseases. The child with vomiting and diarrhea. Recognize diabetes occurring in children, indicate its therapeutic directions in the
onset phase, identify and illustrate the preventive and social aspects of diabetes in children. Describe and classify congenital metabolic diseases, osteoarticular diseases and
inflammatory diseases. The anemic and / or bleeding child, anemias, leukemia, etc.
- 48 hours of seminar activity related to:

endocrinological, diabetic and metabolic part lecture on clinical cases with related discussion both
by the teacher and / or student
- 256 hours of practice in direct contact with the
patient in the Neonatal Pathology and University Pediatric Clinics departments in agreement with the G. Gaslini Institute
-N. 64 hours of lessons at the Simulation Center with lessons on dummies for cardiorespiratory emergencies.
It will be possible to take lessons electronically at the request of the Students.
SYLLABUS/CONTENT
Disease Prevention: Health Education, Principle of drug therapy in children, illustration of the main types of screening in developmental age.
- Problems of the newborn: Physical examination of the newborn, term infant, preterm and small for gestational age.
-Growth and development: Recognize growth anomalies: deficits and state delays, harmony and disharmony in children, hypothalamic-pituitary diseases and growth, hypopituitarism and hypothyroidism
-Pediatric diseases: recurrent infections, respiratory pathologies, gastro-intestinal pathologies.

EXAMS
Exam description
The Pediatrics exam consists of an oral test. Students who have attended at least 75% of the lessons and practice hours are admitted during the academic year.
Assessment methods
The verification of learning takes place through the only final (oral) exam which aims to ascertain the membership acquisition by the student of the expected learning outcomes.
To pass the exam, the student must report one rating not less than 18/30, and must demonstrate:
-Know the topics covered during the lessons;
-Being able to possess an adequate level of knowledge of the subjects covered during the course.
- Acquisition of the ability to analyze the pediatric problems that will be posed during the examination.
The following final marks are expressed in thirtieths:
-Ability to deal transversally and critically with the topics requested;
- Correctness, clarity, synthesis and fluidity of exhibition;
- Mastery of the subject;
-Adoption of appropriate terminology.
The mark of 30/30, with possible honors, will be awarded when the knowledge / skills of the subject are excellent.
