AIMS AND CONTENT

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Alternative energy sources. Overview on Renewable Energy: requirement, supplying, renewable and non-renewable sources. Wind Power: characteristics, calculation of the energy available on an annual basis, environmental impact. Hydropower: large and small scale uses. Solar energy: thermal and photovoltaic technologies, solutions, design criteria. Solar collectors at low temperature, concentration systems, solar cooling. Photovoltaic cells and modules. Principles of operation, computation of the absorbed energy, optimal orientation. Geothermal Energy: high and low temperature. Geothermal heat pumps, sizing and economic considerations. Biomass: type and technology. Energy Certification. Overview of current legislation on energy saving. Calculation of primary energy demand of a building: references in laws and regulations, verifications of the law (Directive 2002/91/EC, DL 192/2005, DL. 311/2006, Regional Regulation 2008) Calculation of the energy performance indexes: global, related to the building, production of domestic hot water, air conditioning, calculation of the average seasonal overall efficiency (efficiency of production, control, distribution and emission); example of filling an energy certificate. Summer thermal loads, simplified methods of calculation of sensitive loads, calculation examples.
