OVERVIEW

Histoire du théâtre français du XVIIe au XXe siècle. The dramatic genre is a textual typology with specific rules and structures that have changed over the centuries. By studying the history of the French drama in diachrony, we'll point out the developments and transformations closely related to the cultural history of France.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

To provide knowledge on the outline of the history of French theater and playwriting. At the end of the course the student is able to read and understand texts in language and is initiated using the methods and basic analytical tools to interpret the works of the main authors, contextualizing them in culture and historical period .

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Attendance and active participation in the proposed training activities (lectures and online activities) and individual study will enable the student to:
- know the general lines of the development of French culture;
- to know the general lines of the history of French theater;
- to know how to identify and analyze the theatrical text;
- be able to read and understand texts in French;
- use basic analytical methods and tools to interpret the works of the main authors;
- contextualizing literary productions in culture and in the historical period of reference.

PREREQUISITES

Know the French language at the BCE level of the QRCE and possess basic notions of the history of French literature.

The course consists of lectures, for a total of 36 hours, with the help of aulaweb, and the optional group work.Group and flipped classroom activities are planned.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

PROGRAM A monitored attendance (75%)

The course will focus on the development of theatrical writing in the French context with specific reference to the schools and literary movements that followed one another from 1600 to the present day. Constant reference will be made to the reading of theoretical texts and dramaturgical texts. Through the in-depth reading of four pieces we will enter into the mechanisms of theatrical writing and analyze the specificities of the texts and will compare them with the rendering of some Italian versions.

Program B 

History of the French Theater from the beginning to the twentieth century included studied in the Manual in the bibliography.
Reading of 6 texts (chosen from those in the list that will be published on Aulaweb at the beginning of the course, which you will need to be able to make a critical presentation according to the sheet in the list).

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

All the slides used during the lessons and other teaching material will be available on aul @ web. In general, the notes taken during the lessons and the material on aulaweb are sufficient for the preparation of the exam.

EXAMS

Exam description

Written exan for attending students. A questionnaire will be held on the subjets treated during the course. 

Oral exam for non attending students. 

Assessment methods

Attending students:  written questionnaire. In examination assessment will be taken into account, the knowledge of the program : topics covered in class, reading and analysis of texts proposed during the lessons, the materials made available on aulaweb platform and readings of three full texts.

Non attending students:
During the exam the candidate must demonstrate that he has read the texts and is able to disclose its content, literary and generic features, stylistic features in relation to the author's and the period and movement or literary school. In the evaluation of the examination, besides the knowledge of the program to be carried out, the ability to exhibit and the accuracy in the use of the specific language of the discipline will be taken into account.
