OVERVIEW

The traineeship course of the second year of the course includes 560 hours. The students goes in laboratories of hospitals  in specialized fields of Laboratory Medicine; They have to acquire skills with practical activity envisaged by the Technician profile of Biomedical Laboratory. The traineeship path is divided into specific sectors in periods of between two and five weeks of stay.

Acquire knowledge and practical skills related to molecular biology techniques, immunohaematological techniques, immunohistochemistry, chromatography and cytofluorimetric techniques.

immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry:Overview of immunohistochemical techniques,Preparatory treatment of the material for immuno-histochemical examinations,Basic immunohistochemistry techniques (manual, semi-automatic and automatic),Main markers in immuno-histochemistry (reading data-sheet, optimal dilution of new antibody, etc.),Use of positive and negative controls,Preparation of pads,Maintenance and management tools,Waste disposal.Immuno-histochemistry on cytological material,Preparation prepared for extemporaneous diagnostics - Elective colors for intraoperative examinations - Preparation of cytology for intraoperative examination.Overview of immunocytochemical techniques,Acceptance and preparation of samples for immuno-cytochemical examinations,Cell separation on density gradient,Inclusion techniques for cytological material,Basic immunocytochemical techniques (manual, semi-automatic and automatic;Immuno-cytochemical markers (data-sheet reading, optimal new antibody dilution, etc,Use of positive and negative controls,Preparation of pads, Maintenance and management tools,Use of collective and individual PPE, notes on biobanks, Waste disposal.
molecular biology:Organization of behavioral areas and norms in the molecular biology laboratory,Acceptance of storage and conservation of the biological sample, work programs nucleic acid extraction with manual and automatic methods used in the laboratory,Dosing and evaluation of nucleic acids,PCR techniques,Electrophoresis gel,Sequencing and interpretation results. Maintenance and use of laboratory instruments, CQI and VEQ quality controls

flow cytometry:Knowledge of the physical and technological bases of flow cytometry: General diagram of a flow cytometer (fluidics, optics, electronics), Meaning of the cellular physical parameters evaluated in cytometry ( Fluorescence signals,Description of fluorine chromium,Compensation operation, Meaning of multiparametric analysis,  Gating strategy and Data representation); Direct and indirect staining techniques of biological samples;Main application methodologies for the study of phenotype and lymphocyte functions, such as cytokine production and proliferation.

HPLC and LC-MS/MS: Demonstration and characteristics of the operation of the modules of an HPLC, Extraction of a sample on a resin column,the 24 h urine collection is acidified for specific chromatographic examinations, use of the I. S. in different methods,Reading of a chromatogram and possible changes on the retention times of the peaks,Intervention on the reading program to highlight and recognize the various operations so that a substance is recognized in the analytical phase,Exercise on the various methods in the elution phase of a sample,Procedure for stabilizing a column and identifying the various columns on an HPLC module,Demonstration and operation of an LC-MS / MS,Extraction of a sample for analysis in LC-MS / MS, Evaluation of an analysis calibration curve in LC-MS / MS

PREREQUISITES

Have attended and passed the training periods of the first and second year and the related exam. Having passed all the exams of the first year and all the exams of the second year except one C.I. not a prerequisite according to the teaching regulations.

LESSONS START

The practical training course begins after the end of the 1st semester lessons from the month of January to the month of February and after the lessons of the second semester from the month of April-May to the month of September with a break in the month of August

Exam description

Verification of the ability to perform laboratory tests with the description of the procedures for carrying out and the purposes of the test for clinical tests -diagnostic

Assessment methods

The exam takes place at the end of the completion of the annual internship. The student must demonstrate that he has achieved the intended objectives.
