OVERVIEW

The course aims at developing the student's awareness with regard to:

  • figurative language as a chapter of general linguistic analysis;
  • figures of the plane of expression, of the plane of content, of communicative interaction.

 

 

AIMS AND CONTENT

To enhance the student's competence about figurative language, both conventional and creative, as components of complex expressions.

a) Figures as forms of valorisation of linguistic means

b) Figures of the plane of expression: sounds, rhythms, constituent order

c) figures of the plane of content

Conceptual conflict as a form of valorisation of coding means

Figures of contraddiction: oxymoron

Figures of inconsistency: metaphor, metonymy and syneddoche

d) figures of communicative interaction: allegory, hyperbole, irony and litotes

Assessment methods

The exam aims to assess the student's ability to organise and expose relevant topics in a coherent way.

The first topic will be proposed by the student, the second by the Professor.
