OVERVIEW

The course is designed for students who undertook the first cycle degree program in History, in Humanities, or in Conservation of Cultural Heritage, and students on their second or third year of the inter-university first cycle degree program in "Human Science of Environment, Territory and Landscape" (University of Milan).  The course gives access to teaching Humanities in public Secondary School.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Knowing the evolution of geographical thought from its origins to modern and post-modern periods;
Mastering theories and models in geography, terminology, sources and analytic tools;
Having a good grasp of cultural geography and of the different scientific approaches within this field. Getting acquainted with teaching methods and tools used in secondary school;
Being able to plan modular syllabi for teaching geography and geo-history in secondary school, according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Education.

PREREQUISITES

Geographical knowledge in accordance with the National Guidelines applicable for Secondary and Secondary Secondary School.

The course takes place through participated lectures.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Module 1 and 2 (6 CFU) - The evolution of geographical thought from its origins to modern and post-modern periods, with a special focus on the scientific approaches advocated for by different "schools" from the 19th century to now. Geographic theories and models: the Central place theory, graph theory within the analysis of spatial interaction, a few examples of general models. Terminology, sources and tools for the analysis and interpretation of anthropic phenomena, their distribution and their spatial organization. Different trends and approaches in cultural geography. Methods for synchronic and diachronic analysis of landscape.

Module 3 - The modular method in monodisciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching — Teaching geography and geo-history in lower secondary school and in the first two years of upper secondary school in Italy.
