OVERVIEW

The course aims at studying in depth  themes in Philosophical Anthropology, a discipline which is extremely relevant in contemporary culture (although sometimes it is called by other names or it is not even mentioned).

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Studying in depth (through philosophical reflection and a seminar teaching method) the themes in Philosophical Anthropology, a discipline which is extremely relevant in contemporary culture (although sometimes it is called by other names or it is not even mentioned). Getting acquainted with the following themes: the relation between philosophy and Humanities; the specific features that draw a line between Human beings, other animals and machines; love in its different forms; post-humanism, etc.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

In the frame  of the general aims of the course, my intention this hear is to emphasize the philosophical implications of the construction  of a special idea of man in human sciences from the second half of ninetheen century, over all about the religious dimension, philosophically reading some main classical works and a few of the  numerous contempory studies on the origin of religion from an evolutionistic point of view

the students (either who are taking the 6 CFU course  that who are taking the 9 CFU course)   then  will be able :

1) to  show a adequate  knowledge of the classical works of the recommended reading//bibliography

2) to have a critical understanding of the same texts

3) to compare   one another the contents of  these text

4)to show the capability to summarize, introduce and value during a seminar discussion  a selected text

4) to elaborate some personal convinction  about the the content of the course

 

PREREQUISITES

It's an advanced course which presupposes a past  frequence of the course of  'antropologia filosofica' or other moral course of the 'laurea triennale in filosofia'

Oral lessons for the students who are taking the course of 6CFU and for the first part of the 9 CFU course (h. 34); public discussion in seminar form of  student's papers in the last part of course (h 18)

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Contents for students who are taking the 6-CFU course:

The invention of homo religiosus: the objecst of the course are the philosophical implications of the construction  of a special idea of man in human sciences from the second half of ninetheen century, over all about the religious dimension, philosophically reading some main classical works  as William James, Emile Durckheim, Lucien Levy-Brulh and Sigmund  Freud, that was almost  professional philosopher in the beginning. 

Content for students  who are taking  the 9 CFU course:

2)The origin of religious dimension from an evolutionistic point of view: a critical discussion by a  a seminar method of  some of the  numerous contemporay studies on the origin of religion

EXAMS

Exam description

An oral interwiew about all the texts present  in the recommended reding/bibliography and eventually about the paper presented by the cadidate during the last part of the course

Assessment methods

During the oral intewiew the student must demostrate:

1) a complete  knowledge  of  all the texst in the recommended reading/biliography

2) an adequate understanding of the same texts

3) the capability to  compare one-another the content of theese texts

4) the capability to elaborate some personal convinction  about the the content of the course

5) the capability to summarize, introduce and value during a seminar discussion  a text chosen in the reccomended reading/bibliography(only for students who take the 9 CFU course)

Presentations given by students during seminar classes will count toward the final mark.
