OVERVIEW

The course wishes to provide interpretative knowledge and means of the current transformations in the european societies of the twentieth century. Particularly, the role undertaken by wars will be analyzed as a catalyzing agent of the processes of geopolitical, social and cultural changes. All forms of war that hit Europe in the '900 will be analyzed: world wars, colonial wars, civil wars, wars for freedom and decolonization, revolutionary wars, global wars.

The course aims at providing knowledge and interpretative tools on the dynamic of transformations undergone by the European societies between the nineteenth and twentieth Century

Favor the acquisition of categories of interpretation useful to comprehend the complexity of historical contemporary events for a greater knowledge of the present and of its ties to the past.

The history of the nineteenth century with particular reference to the role undertaken by wars in determining the political, social and cultural history of european societies.

Exam description

Oral interview for Non-Attending Students. The Oral interview has the function of verifying the level of comprehension of the program's texts.

Written exams during the course will be for Attending Students, with an open and multiple-answer test.

Assessment methods

The Oral Interview will test their ability to comprehend the articles and books studied and the quality of their exposition, as well as the correct usage of specialistic lexic and the ability of critical thinking on the studies done.

The written exam for attendees will value the ability to learn, comprehend and memorize the contents of the lessions.
