AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge for the analysis and understanding of
the energy systems.
In particular the plant lay-out, operating parameters and performances of the different systems will be
analysed and compared.
The methods to increase the plant efficiency will be presented and the critical aspects of the power plants
management will be discussed.

The course is based on theoretical lectures and numerical calculations

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Worldwide and national energy production overview.
Applied thermodynamic recap.
Steam turbine power plants: system configurations, operating parameters and performances.
Gas turbine power plants: configurations, operating parameters and performances.
Combined cycle power plants and combined heat and power plants (CHP).
Hydroelectric power plants.
Internal combustion engines.

Verbal test.

Assessment methods

The students will take a verbal test consisting of  two or more questions, related to the topics covered in class, to monitor their level of comprehension and knowledge, and to ascertain their critical thinking and capacity of synthesis.
