ARABIC LANGUAGE III
A course in Arabic Language III composed of:
Theoretical module (30 hours in the second semester).
Language teaching assistantship module (100 hours: 50 hours each semester).
This course aims at teaching the theoretical and the practical aspects of the morphosyntactic system of modern standard Arabic language in order to develop reading and listening comprehension abilities.
Through lectures held by native speakers, the course provides the student with better communicative linguistic skills in comparison with the level achieved in the precedent course of study.
Special attention will be paid to the principals of translation theory from Arabic (whether standard or colloquial) into Italian and vice versa.
AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
The course completes, deepens and intensifies the knowledge of the morphosyntactic system of standard literary Arabic. It also offers the student the necessary competence to face text analysis, translation, comprehension and oral /written production of texts of different lengths. Producing compound sentences of different typologies is a further aim.
The aims in detail are:
To bring the student to know the different kinds of verbs in arabic language: the hamzated, the contracted and the different types of irregular verbs.
To know how to coniugate the irregualr verbs in present and past tense applying the modifications required.
To know the modifications of the irregular verb in accusative and apocope cases.
To form the imperative and the negative imperative of irregular verbs.
To form the conditional cluse with different grades of possibility of realization of the action.
To know how express hope, proximity and commencement of action.
To know the different ways to create the adverbial phrase.
To be able to translate sentences and texts with the above-mentioned structures from arabic into italian e vice versa.
The level obtained in Arabic language II.
Frontal class lectures.
Different kinds of verbs: Hamzated, contracted and irregular of all kinds).
The coniugation of defective or irregular verbs af all above-mentioned kinds in past and present tense.
The passive voice of irregular verbs in past and present tense.
Imperative and negative imperative of irregualr verbs (direct and indirect imperative).
Hypothetical or conditional caluse.
Verbs of hope, proximity and commencement of action.
Adverbial phrase revealing mode and circumstance (different ways of realizing adverbial phrase).
The language teaching assistantship module (100 hours) includes:
Improvement of the four skills: reading, wrinting,speaking and listenng comprehension (an hour a week with the total of 20 hours annually are dedicated to listening comprehension).
Translation of sentences and texts that contain the above/mentioned structures from Arabic into Italian and viceversa.
