## AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Basic knowledge regarding hydrostatics, dimensional analysis, integral analysis of fluid motion and evaluation of forces and moments, analysis of differential equations governing the fluid flow, analytical solutions of certain configurations, evaluation of mass flow, pressure and losses in systems of tubes, pumps and generators. At the end of the course the students will be able to understand and analyse simple fluid mechanics systems.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The transversal skills in terms of communication skills, ability to work in a team, presentations for the exam and applied comprehension skills will be acquired through group exercises, and communication skills and presentations will be encouraged with the creation of a personal video, of a home made experiment accompanied with an explanation of the underlying physics, which is evaluated during the exam.

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lessons and practical exercises. Moreover, the students will have the possibility to earn a few points on the final exam score by performing a small project. The project consists of making a short video explaining, possibly including a simple home made experiment, a fluid mechanics phenomenon chosen by the student.

Basic fluid mechanics concepts (fluid definition and Its physical properties), hydrostatics: distribution of pressures, forces on flat and curved surfaces, integral principles, governing equations on integral form, dimensional analysis (Buckingham theorem), Navier-Stokes equations, analytical solutions, Stokes flow, sedimentation

## EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

There are two non-compulsory written exams during the course (mid-term and at the end of the course). If the student has a vote (vote> = 18) then he/she can choose the average as the final grade of the course. The votes for a written exam do not expire. During the exam period the student can resume one or both of the written exams.

For those who do not want to do the written exams, an oral exam can be organized at the end of the course on the whole course content.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The student's assessment involves two written tests, or for those who want an oral exam, in which theoretical questions and practical applications are proposed based on the various topics of the course. The student will have to prove that he can answer, at least in part, on all the topics.
