AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Provide a framework for all major network technologies that use wireless (wireless) transmissions considering application areas and architectures both from a structural and protocollary point of view. • Deepen some specific technologies of particular interest and Present and future diffusion, such as wireless networks and wireless LAN networks • Provide introductory indications to identify the current and short-term utilization possibilities of the above-mentioned technologies in relation to the various application areas. • Outline the main solutions to the mobility problem on packet networks (in TCP / IP technology) in relation to the wireless technologies described.

  1. Introduction to the wireless networks
  2. Architectures and protocols for packet wireless network: WLAN: the IEEE 802.11 (WiFi) standard - Wireless access networks (IEEE802.16) - PAN: the Bluetooth (IEEE802.15) standard.
  3.  Radio-mobile cellular networks: Introduction - Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) - GPRS/EDGE - UMTS/LTE
  4. Mobility management in IP packet networks
