2 credits during the 4th year of 8452 Pharmacy (LM-13) GENOVA
OVERVIEW
The course should give the students detailed information on some aspects of neuropsychopharmacology, particularly regarding some experimental techniques available to scientists developing new drugs active on Central Nervous System
AIMS AND CONTENT
LEARNING OUTCOMES
To provide students knowledge on some aspects of Research in neuropharmacology (see further info)
AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
To provide students knowledge on some aspects of Research in pharmacology of the Central Nervous System, some related techniques and their possible application. To give some examples of studies which have the potential aim to develop new drugs of neurological or psychiatric interest.
Teaching methods
Lectures will be supported by presentations and slides in pdf or Power Point format. The content of the lectures will be requested for the exam. No further reading / books are requested.
SYLLABUS/CONTENT
Neurotransmitters and experimental techniques for their characterization (biosynthesis, storage, release and release mechanisms, transporters, receptor types and subtypes, coexistence of transmitters and their interaction). Detailed study of some neurotransmitters particularly involved in important central Nervous System pathologies. Experimental models and study of new potential drugs in some pathologies like anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, ischemia and Parkinson disease. Non-invasive methods to study behaviour in animals which are models of pathology of the nervous system.
