This unit is a module of:

OVERVIEW

Study of chemical and chemical-physical basic of technologies, with particular reference to materials, properties and interaction with the environment, providing a synthesis of common principles of state and transformation of matter.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

To supply a basic chemical culture, required to describe the thermodynamic and kinetic in the organic reactions of hydrocarbons and common functional groups.

Structure and nomenclature of organic compounds. Isomers.

Primary reactions in organic chemistry.

Structure of fats, carbohydrates and proteins.

Classification of polymer materials.

Basic knowledge of instrumental analysis in organic chemistry.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures and exercises. Practical abilities are tested during numerical exercises.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Structure and nomenclature of organic compounds. Isomers. Physical properties of organic compounds. Radical reactions. Halogenation of saturated hydrocarbons. Substitutions SN1 and SN2. Eliminations E1 and E2. Addition reactions and polymerization of unsaturated hydrocarbons. Addition and reactions in the carbonyl group. Aldol and Claisen condensation reactions. Reduction and oxidation of carbonyl group. Catalytic hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions. Substitution reactions in aromatic compounds. Fats. Carbohydrates. Proteins. Classification of polymer materials. Basic knowledge of instrumental analysis.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

It is based on 3 questions of importance equivalent: 1) description of a reaction mechanism between chain reactions, electrophile addition reactions, electrophile substitution reactions, nucleophilic substitution reactions, carbon nucleophilic attack reactions, Reactions of hydrogen in alpha to carbonyl, reactions of acyl substitutions, heterogeneous catalysis reactions; 2) synthesis of an organic molecule starting from simple raw materials similar to what was done during classroom exercises and present in the appropriate section available in Aulaweb; 3) a description of the nature and behavior of molecules of industrial interest such as saccharides, proteins, lipids and synthesis polymers; Or a description of an analytical method between UV-Vis spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging.
