4 credits during the 1st year of 9018 Chemical Sciences (LM-54) GENOVA
4 credits during the 2nd year of 9018 Chemical Sciences (LM-54) GENOVA
A first knowledge of environmentally preferable approaches to the design and operation of the chemical processes; a sufficient awareness of the main environmental issues not only within the context of chemical production but also during other stages of a chemical’s life cycle (transportation, use, recycle, disposal).
An introduction to environmental issues
The evolution of the approach: from end-of-pipe to pollution prevention
Green Chemistry: definition and aims
Evaluating the environmental impact of a product (structure-properties relationships, environmental persistence, environmental fate, exposure pathways)
Designing safer chemicals
Life-cycle assessment (definition, methodology, uses)
Green Chemistry guidelines: feedstocks, solvents, catalysts, synthesis pathways
Unit operations and pollution prevention
Evaluating the environmental performance of a process
Ricevimento: Always, by appointment.

The oral exam is always conducted by two teachers of the School and has a duration of at least 1 hour. In this way the commission can verify with high accuracy if the student has reached the learning outcomes. The depth and coherence of the knowledge of the most important concepts and equations will be evaluated. Moreover the ability to apply them to simple specific cases will be assessed. If the commission ascertain that the learning oucomes have not been reached, the students are invited to repeat the exam.
