FONDAMENT CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGIES IN INDUSTRY AND ENVIRONMENT MOD 1
OVERVIEW
The course includes theoretical lessons on process instrumentation, flow and transportation of fluids, membrane separation processes together with practical laboratory work on part of the topics covered in the theoretical lessons.
AIMS AND CONTENT
LEARNING OUTCOMES
To supply theoretical principles on flow and transportation of fluids together with some example and practical application
To develop ability to work in groups as well as to write proper reports on the laboratory work
Teaching methods
Theoretical lessons and practical demonstrations
SYLLABUS/CONTENT
a) Theoretical lessons
Materials of construction for chemical plants. Mechanical and technological properties of materials. Piping: pipe, joints, flanges, fittings. Valves. Transportation of fluids: pumps, compressors. Instrumentation and measurements: flow, temperature, pressure,
level. Process control. Membrane separation processes: micro and ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis
b) Relevant laboratory work
- evaluation of friction loss through pipes and valves.
- evaluation of centrifugal pumps performance
- separation tests through ultrafiltration or reverse osmosis
membrane.
