PHILOSOPHY OF MIND
OVERVIEW
The course introduces the main topics in philosophy of mind and cognitive sciences, not only from a metaphysical point of view, but also in relation to current scientific results. Problems like the mind-body relationship, the causality of mind, the nature of intentionality and consciousness will be examined and discussed.
AIMS AND CONTENT
SYLLABUS/CONTENT
The course introduces the main topics in philosophy of mind and cognitive sciences: the mind-body relationship, the causality of mind, the nature of intentionality and consciousness will be examined and discussed. These problems will be discussed in relation to philosophical positions like dualism (substance, properties, predicates), behaviourism (classic and contemporary), identity theories (type, token), reductionism, eliminativism, computationalism, and functionalism.
The concepts of cognitive function and dysfunction will be examined with regard to some important issues duscussed in philosophy of psychiatry.

Texts will be recommended in class.
