OVERVIEW

The course aims to reinforce in students the critical and conscious attitude towards the teaching / learning processes in life sciences. The teaching approach will allow the questioning of personal mental representations, the sharing of hypotheses and experiences, the analysis of conceptual knots, of basic concepts and of effective teaching strategies for the exploration of the life phenomena in kindergarten and primary school.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

A teaching strategy characterized by participation and knowledge sharing will allow participants to become aware of their mental representations of life phenomena. Both in kindergarten and in the primary schools, this will allow to define teaching actions which can encourage in the pupils the independent research of the meanings of reality, through a scientific approach centered on curiosity, on sharing personal experiences and hypotheses, on the experimental validation of assumed solution of the issues addressed and the development of an appropriate language to the sharing of the knowledge acquired.

Teaching methods

The lessons will be organized according to participatory methods and group work, with reference to the constructivist paradigm; This will allow students to experience one of the most effective methodologies for the construction of skills in the field of life sciences. When possible, lectures and thematic visits will be organized. Articles, links to sites of interest, bibliography etc. will be made available on the e-learning portal.

After each lesson, the teacher is committed to upload to the e-learning portal an annotated summary of the content of the discussion in the classroom (also in English) .The participants are encouraged to upload, in the appropriate forum connected to each encounter in the classroom, their comments, questions, insights, calls for discussion and any other material which they consider appropriate for the common work

Non-attending students must signal to the teacher (via email) the inability to attend. They are asked to follow the development of the course through the text adopted and the materials on the e-learning portal; they are also obliged to upload in the forum dedicated to each lesson at the e-learning portal their thoughts, doubts, opinions, suggestions about the contents discussed in the classroom. So they can feel part of the common work.

EXAMS

Exam description

Oral examination

Assessment methods

Consistently with the educational choices made for the course, characteristics and methods of evaluation will be discussed and defined with the students during the lessons.
The examination is to ascertain:

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: the connection with the course Fondamenti delle Sciernze della Vita promotes the development in students of adequate reading and understanding skills to investigate the biological realities and the main conceptual basis of the life sciences.

SKILLS IN KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING IMPLEMENTATION: the students will prove critical skills to address the macro level and then move to the microscopic one, to explore the complex phenomenon of life. They will also be able to design and plan significant educational paths for pupils of kindergaten and primary schools.

DEVELOPMENT OF AUTONOMOUS JUDGMENT: the use of the skills mobilized by the course will allow participants to integrate personal knowledge to understand what is happening around them and to propose their own solutions to the problems under investigation. This will facilitate their education in the field of educational planning of the life sciences, as well as supporting the deepening of personal culture.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: The evaluation mode, highly participatory (which is essential, given the didactic choices for the course), will enable students to strengthen their skills of expression and communication both towards their future pupils and towards the general public (parents, friends etc.).

LEARNING SKILLS: Students will develop appropriate learning skills that enable them to independently investigate major issues of the discipline, finding significant insights in the local contexts in which their teaching profession takes place
